Biography

Andrew Russell Garfield was born on August 20, 1983. He spent the first three years of his life in California. His father worked as a swimming coach, and his mother was a teaching assistant at a nursery school. In 1986, Andrew’s parents moved to England with their son. The actor is Jewish by nationality. The boy’s ancestors emigrated to America from Russia, Romania, and Poland. Initially, the surname was Garfinkel, but Andrew’s paternal grandfather changed it to Garfield.

The boy studied at schools in London and Banstead. As a child, he was not interested in any comics, no theater, no cinema. And how could the boy find such hobbies if the family was far from creativity? The Garfield’s had a small business and engaged in finishing work on the premises.

At the age of 15, Andrew began to comprehend acting and performing in amateur performances. Then he attended the Central School of Speech and Drama, which he successfully graduated in 2004. During his studies, the future actor lived in a shabby apartment in North London, and he had to earn for living himself.

Andrew Garfield recalls how at the age of 19 he bought a pirate disc with Spider-Man and watched it twice in a row.
