Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man screening raises $10,000 for charity

ANDREW GARFIELD helped raise more than $10,000 for a children’s charity at a special screening of the new SPIDER-MAN movie on Sunday (27Apr14).

The British actor has long supported the work of the Worldwide Orphans Foundation and he joined the organisation’s founder Dr. Jane Aronson at the fundraising event in New York City.

Dr. Aronson’s charity helps transform the lives of orphans around the globe, and Garfield heaped praise on her work to date, telling the crowd, “There’s a lot of hope in all of us being here, and giving whatever we can to a cause that’s impossible to argue.

“I’m in awe of what Jane and her team do. I’m sure that if Spider-Man were here, he’d be energised by the work of (Dr. Aronson) and her incredible team.”

Andrew Garfield on Starstruck Encounter With Oprah

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star Andrew Garfield may play an iconic superhero on the big screen, but there is a small-screen icon that still makes him starstruck: Oprah Winfrey.

The actor explained how he was in awe of the mogul when he saw her eating breakfast at his hotel recently.
“I have no awareness of anything apart from the fact that it was Oprah,” he said during a Monday appearance on Live With Kelly and Michael. “Like everything, literally, I melted away, the room melted away, and it was just like Oprah and sunlight and some kind of Godsend.”

Garfield added that he didn’t think he’d be so starstruck by her.

“I didn’t expect it. It came out of nowhere,” he said. “I had no idea I loved her so much until I was actually in the same room as her.”

Garfield received an on-air surprise when the show aired a clip of his first on-camera role.

arfield seemed to know what was coming when Michael Strahan asked him about his acting debut. He stalled for a bit before he finally saying, “I’m not ashamed. I did a great commercial for Doritos in Spain.”

He added that in the commercial he played air guitar with a Dorito as a pick.

But when Strahan revealed the ad, Garfield jokingly shouted, “I will kill you!”

Garfield also told a story about playing basketball with a couple of kids while he was filming the Amazing Spider-Man sequel in New York City’s Chinatown — and their not-so-excited reaction to seeing the superhero.

Garfield explained that he went up to the kids in his suit, thinking they’d freak out when they saw it was Spider-Man.

“I imagined the response was just going to be mouth agape … like when I saw Oprah,” he said. “I was going to be the Oprah of that scenario.”

But the kids weren’t that impressed. When Spider-Man asked them if he could shoot hoops with them, they just looked at him and said, “Yeah, OK.”

“And then I just felt bad because for 20 minutes I was just intruding on their one-on-one time,” Garfield said.

Access Hollywood: Andrew Garfield Talks About His Chemistry with Emma Stone

Andrew Garfield had no problem delivering a convincing romantic performance with real-life and onscreen love Emma Stone.

Access Hollywood’s Scott “Movie” Mantz caught up with the actor at the “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” New York City premiere where he talked about co-starring with Emma in Spidey’s new big screen adventure.

“She’s a good actress,” he said of Emma. “It’s hard not to have chemistry with such a great actress!”

Andrew said he’s always amazed when working alongside her.

“I think anyone who ever works with her goes, ‘Holy gosh darn! What just happened?’” he continued.

The latest installment of the superhero franchise takes an even more romantic turn for Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, something which Andrew credits Emma for delivering.

“It’s a testament to Emma… and what she brings to this film is… a woman who is following her own path and living her destiny just as much as Peter Parker/Spider-Man is living his,” he said of the movie’s romantic story. “[She’s] the most beautiful role model for women and young girls, and no better actress could be playing that part.”

Something big and bold is about to happen in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” thanks to the electric combination of Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and the other all-star actors.

For now, the cast and crew involved in the “Amazing Spider-Man” sequel are keeping their lips sealed on the specifics. But star Andrew Garfield, without delving into spoiler territory, made it clear that he’s very excited about what happens in his second film as the web-slinging hero. “It’s a big story,” he told MTV News at the “Amazing Spider-Man 2” New York City premiere. “I’m glad we did it. It’s brave and it’s important.” Did what, Andrew? What’s so brave and important? What are you driving at? The actor, to his credit, kept those secrets firmly in the bag. “You don’t want people to know, walking in, what they’re going to be experiencing, as much as possible,” he teased. “We’re not in the age anymore where ‘The Sixth Sense’ can come out and people don’t know that, in fact, Bruce Willis has been dead the whole time.” He winced: “Sorry if I ruined ‘The Sixth Sense’ for you. Case in point, my big mouth!” Whatever it is that’s coming up, Garfield is very proud of the work that he and his collaborators accomplished in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” “We have to keep pushing the envelope with these movies,” he said. “You know, we’ve seen a lot of these [superhero] movies come out recently. We want to make sure we’re bringing a fresh mix to the audience.” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” swings into theaters on May 2.
